The Island Buenavista is an eco-friendly island.

We are the proud home of a Hawksbill turtle reservoir. The area around the island has been declared a marine protected area by the city government of Samal and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). Because we want to maintain the pristine state of our shoreline and preserve the habitat of our beautiful endemic marine species, we do not allow the use of personal watercraft (like jet skis) along our shores.

Being a small island, we take waste management very seriously. We make use of compost pits on the island. However, you could help us considerably by not bringing too much potential rubbish in the first place, and if possible, taking with you the materials you have brought into the Island.

The Island does not have a flowing water source, as there are no water pipes connecting us to the Island Garden City of Samal or Davao City. This means that we have to import our water from the neighboring island of Samal by ferryboat. Such is the fresh water supply for the bathhouses and the swimming pool that we replenish every so often. Hence, every drop of water counts. Laundry is done in Samal, so please think of the logistics (not to mention additional detergent, energy and water) involved every time you ask for, and use, a new towel.
